UAE e-invoicing: the 2026–2027 timeline and what small businesses must do
Key dates for UAE e-invoicing, who they apply to, and a short checklist for businesses with a deadline of 31 March and 1 July 2027.
Check the source. The dates below are as reported by advisory firms in October 2026. They have changed before. Confirm them on the Ministry of Finance e-invoicing pages before you act. This is general information, not tax advice.
The UAE is introducing mandatory e-invoicing in phases. The phase you are in depends on your annual taxable turnover.
The dates
| Group | Appoint an ASP by | Mandatory from |
|---|---|---|
| Turnover AED 50 million or more | 30 October 2026 | 1 January 2027 |
| Turnover below AED 50 million | 31 March 2027 | 1 July 2027 |
| Government entities | 31 March 2027 | 1 October 2027 |
Voluntary participation and a pilot start on 1 July 2026.
The deadline that is easy to miss is the appointment date. For most small businesses it is 31 March 2027, three months before you must issue e-invoices, and a penalty of AED 5,000 per month of delay has been reported.
What counts as an e-invoice
A PDF, a scan or a photo does not. An e-invoice is a structured data file in the UAE format, PINT-AE, which is based on UBL 2.1 XML. It must be exchanged through an accredited service provider (ASP).
A short checklist
- Find out your group. Check your annual taxable turnover as declared to the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
- Look at how you invoice today. Excel, an accounting package, your own system? The question is whether you can produce the structured data: buyer’s tax number, line items, tax per line.
- Choose an ASP, or a service that works with one, before 31 March 2027 if you are below the threshold.
- Clean up your data. Missing tax registration numbers and inconsistent units are the usual reasons an invoice gets rejected.
- Test before go-live with a few real invoices.
Where we fit
We help businesses that do not want to replace their invoicing process: upload the invoices you already create, we convert and validate them, and submit them through an accredited ASP. See the e-invoicing page.
